Winter Nettles on Oliver Creek Farm

With our mild winter the chickens from next door and the wild elk are enjoying the nettles with us. Elk like to eat the roots and the chickens scratch around the ground where the nettles grow on a hillside in amongst the large forest trees.

We have been babysitting three bunnies for a friend, here is Koa petting Cadbury.

Seeds are in pots on warming mats indoors. Slowly the garden is being cleaned up and soon dolomite will be added along with some manure from bunnies, chickens and horses. The garlic planted in the fall is up. Crocus are blooming. The leeks are healthy and survived the cold snap. Now we cut the salmonberry branches, the black currants, grapes etc. to start in sand for future planting.

The farm has many tasks organizing old pots, cleaning tools, and continuing with indoor seeding.. It is an exciting time to plan for spring!
