As a child growing up on a steep mountain bench I lived amongst trees. My parents had an acre with walnut, pear, apple, cherry, and plum trees in the yard. Near our house was a gully with large black poplar, fir, maple, wild plum, birch, and willow. The forest on the mountain side near us had larch, cedar, spruce, hemlock, fir and ponderosa pine.
The Secret Life of Trees
Dermond, a friend sent me this video to watch in youtube about trees.
Trees on Oliver Creek Farm
When we dug our house foundation we came across buried in the ground. a very large stump, with roots as large as tree trunks.
Future plans are to map out the property doing an inventory of the trees that were left from the logging done here in the past. Now it is bench pasture land with seedlings coming up under the largest firs, cedars, and maples. We have a large holly tree in the creek area and black poplar around water areas.
We have planted some curly willow, hazelnut, and an orchard with pear, apple, cherry, plum, peach and apricot.
This year we had a nice crop of sweet peaches!
I am inspired with the Cobble Hill Fruit forest Farm. Take a look at their site!
